Script ‘Work’ in Central Park

Sunshine, Central Park and a super writing partner – the ingredients of a productive screenplay development meeting.  And I was blessed to have them all in New York City on 18th March as John David Mann and I met to work on the script for the movie of “The Go-Giver”.

It was a long-awaited meeting.  John and I have been communicating and collaborating online for many years.  It felt more like a reunion than a first meeting.  We began our day with coffee and gifts.  John presented me with an autographed copy of his and Bob Burg’s new book “Go-Givers Sell More”.  I was humbled to see that these two great men had honoured me with an acknowledgement in the book.  I’m still overwhelmed by this.

Anyway, it was a beautiful sunny day in New York City.  Much too nice to work inside!  So we walked up to Central Park and spent most of the day there, batting ideas back and forth about how to best serve the story of “The Go-Giver” through the medium of film.

The sunshine – and a saxophonist entertaining the crowds – must have been good for our creativity because we generated lots of interesting ideas for the movie (honestly, we weren’t just working on our tans and eating ice-cream!)  It’s too early to publish these ideas yet, but we are very pleased with how the project is developing.  Watch this space for further updates!

I’d love to hear how the principles in “The Go-Giver” book are working for you in your lives, so feel free to share your experiences below.

After reading The Go-Giver in March of 2009, I closed the book, grabbed my keys, and drove straight to the local Barnes & Nobel where I purchased every copy they had left on the shelf. It didn’t seem to matter that I was going broke, losing my home, and struggling just to survive… I was passionate to get the word out to every person I knew, so I started handing them out to my friends, business associates, the young entrepreneurs I coached, and anyone else I could find that would listen to me ramble on over this “Little Story About A Powerful Business Idea”. At the time, I didn’t know when or how my business and my life were going to change… but change I knew they would.

Over the next several months word spread throughout the business community like a wildfire in the foothills. One of our young entrepreneurs submitted a video entry for a contest to join other like-minded young go-getters in Chicago for The Go-Giver Tour and Michael won one of the 5 coveted spots. I’ve watched as this young man’s life and business have been transform by ‘connecting’ with true Go-Givers (including Bob Burg) at the Extreme Makeover Event in Florida. The teacher became the student and my passion grew to learn more and share more. There wasn’t a single networking meeting or business event I attended where I didn’t hold up a copy of the book and ask how many people in the room had heard of, or read the book.

I have since connected with John & Bob through Twitter and Facebook, it has been amazing to see that they actually practice what they preach… it just felt natural to become a Walking Ambassador for The Go-Giver and I just recently became a licensed Independent Bob Burg Consultant. I continue to study all of the 5 Laws of Stratospheric Success and am applying them in my own life and helping others do the same. These principals have become the core of my coaching practice and I was thrilled when “Go-Givers Sell More” was released this year and am so excited for the movie! Thank you Fiona for bringing this story to the big screen, and thank you John and Bob for touching my life and the lives of so many others with your priceless words of wisdom.

      Hi Julie,

Thank you so much for sharing your story – it’s truly inspirational! I’m so thrilled that “The Go-Giver” made such an impact on your life. I too give out lots of copies of the book. I’d be delighted to hear any suggestions that you have for the movie, which is in development at the moment.

Congratulations on becoming a Bob Burg Consultant. Bob and John are amazing people, aren’t they!

I wish you long life, stratosheric success and immeasurable happiness.

      Warmes wishes, Fiona.

How kind of you to reply to my post Fiona, I’d be honored to send a few suggestions your way – what is the best way to communicate those? Facebook, Email, or posting them here?

Yes, they truly are amazing individuals… they are such great mentors, so inspirational and excellent examples to follow. I’ll finally get to meet and spend some time with Bob in person when he comes to Idaho for an event we are hosting in September. Can’t wait!

  2. Hey Fiona,

This is brilliant news that such an awesome book will be made into film!!

I recently had the honour of getting a sneak preview of Go Givers Sell More- fabulous little handbook & extension of the wisdom of The Go Giver.

It is such a wonderful experience to read a book so well written & so positively supporting the principles which I operate from. So many people around will voice the opposite opinion & probably listening to them has done me more damage than good.

I do what I do because I love it- I do it because of the passion I have for working with people so that they can be happy, healthy & wealthy. I love especially working with entrepreneurs, especially first time entrepreneurs. Unfortunately, financially my business model isn’t that great, because these first time entrepreneurs often don’t have much in the way of funds at their disposal. This does not prevent me from providing coaching & training to those people- because as I said, I love what I do.

Reading The Go Giver has given me even more confidence to keep on doing exactly what I am, enjoying being able to give. I do hope that eventually it will also create wealth for my business, because I know that this will enable my business to grow so that I can help many more people.

Thank you Fiona, if there is anything at all I can do to support you, please let me know :)

      Hi Claire,

Thank you so much for your kind comments and support. You’re doing fantastic work with entrepreneurs and you’re benefiting this country because I believe that SMEs are the bedrock of our economy. They create employment for other Irish people, feed money back into the country and don’t move their businesses elsewhere during difficult economic times.

I know that your Go-Giver nature will definitely generate financial success for you in the same way that it’s creating job satisfaction for you already. Since I read “The Go-Giver” several years ago, I’ve implemented its principles and values in my life and I’m really seeing results. It’s amazing how it works.

I’d be delighted to help you in any way I can.

      Warmest wishes,
      Fiona.
